New Zealand Art

Inspiration for my art comes from moments in time, places I visit, and everyday objects that are familiar. A walk on the beach, a beautiful flower in a garden, the birds in the flax - they all take my imagination and start the creative process. I particularly love groups of objects such as tamarillos, cherries and leaves. I enjoy the way they relate to each other and throw shadows and light.

I make a point never to paint objects or scenes that I have not physically seen or experienced. The feeling of the place is critical to me because it brings the life into my work. Banks Peninsula near Christchurch is a favourite spot and many of my works are inspired by the area. I love to visit antique shops and endlessly hoard old enamel jugs and china to use in my still life paintings. Moving to New Zealand changed my art considerably, it became more colourful, bolder and larger. I am thankful to live in such a beautiful place.
